Impact of Demographics on Game Show Contestant Survival in the U.S.
Learn moreOur project aims to examine factors that influence contestant longevity, through the use of exploratory data analysis and survival analysis (i.e. in the form of Cox proportional hazard models and Kaplan-Meier estimates).
We invite you to explore the content of our research project, encompassing formal analysis, interactive visualizations, and a video presentation.
We rely on castway_details and castaways data from the survivorR package, featuring information on the characteristics and performance of contestants from across the 43 seasons of the show.
Motivation for this project
We are curious about the implications of self-identified race and personality type to game show survival, as entertainment culture is deeply intertwined with societal biases. We are specifically looking at the show Survivor. We were inspired by a similar project of a smaller scale studying the effects of race and gender in Masterchef Junior survival rates.
